Peripheral Nerves
Peripheral nerves are the nerves that are present outside the brain and spinal cord. They carry electrical impulses and signals from and to the brain. The disorders of the peripheral nervous system will interrupt the transmission of signals and impair the sensory and motor nerve functions. The causes for this disorder are either inherited or acquired. Acquired peripheral disorders may result from injury, trauma, diabetes, infections, alcoholism, kidney disorders, tumors, and others. The common symptoms include pain, burning sensation in the affected areas, muscle weakness, numbness, and tingling sensation in hands and feet. These conditions may be treated with conservative approaches or with neurosurgeries.
